CARROTS, CARROTS, CARROTS!

Curry & Company is starting 2012 entrenched in our rapidly expanding carrot program.  Our North Carolina carrots started a few weeks late due to cooler weather but we are now packing throughout the week.  This is our first season with North Carolina carrots and we’ve been impressed with both the color and the flavor.  They are all grown and picked in Ellerbe, NC and then we pack them at our packing facility in Statesboro, GA. If you’re a Southeastern retailer, our North Carolina carrots are regionally sensitive for you and we can provide you with local/regional merchandising support.

We are going to transition directly from our North Carolina Carrots to our Vidalia Sweet Carrots™ grown in the famed Vidalia onion growing region of Georgia.  Our Vidalia Sweet Carrots are specially selected varieties that grow sweeter than your standard cooking carrot.  The photo below was taken in late January and you can see we’re getting close to harvest.  Our Vidalia Sweet Carrots™ tend to be a bit longer and thinner than other full sized carrots – making them easy to eat and great for snacking.

HERMISTON SWEETREDS™, THE MILD SWEET ONION YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT!

It’s time to give your customers the red onion that is mild and versatile. Our Hermiston SweetReds™.  It’s time to give your customers the red onion that is mild and versatile. We had a large harvest in the fall and will have availability all spring long.
When you merchandise Hermiston SweetReds™, make sure you’ve called attention to the fact that they are a mild onion. Many consumers don’t realize there are mild red onions and you can help drive sales by alerting them to this fact. We offer POSPoint of Sale to alert customers as well.

OUR CHILEAN BLUEBERRY PROGRAM PROVIDES THE CONSISTENCY YOU’RE LOOKING FOR

Unusually high Chilean temperatures early in January slowed imports from Chile in mid January. The high temperatures even caused some fruit to be diverted to the frozen industry because it wasn’t export quality. Fortunately, we have our own employee, Todd Mauritz in Chile for the length of the season and he carefully monitored the situation.

As you can see from the blueberries in Todd’s hand, we are experiencing a lot of nice size and expect to for the next few weeks. Our program starts winding down through February so let’s have open communication and then we’ll help you transition into domestic fruit.

WE’LL BE AT THE SOUTHEAST PRODUCE COUNCIL SHOW

One of our favorite shows each year is the Southeast Produce Council Show.  It is March 1-3 this year in Tampa. What do we like about it?  The small format, the strong attendance by retailers, the quality time and conversations you get to have.  Make sure to stop by our booth this year.  map to the conference.
